A few years ago we visited Corfu on our holiday. I was a little apprehensive, expecting to end up in some sort of Ibiza clone full of drunken teenagers and fried breakfasts. As it turned out, all that stuff is mostly tucked away at the bottom of the island, and the rest of it is well worth a visit, with some quiet beaches, fantastic sky blue seas, mountains, picturesque villages, and a nice main town.We spent several mornings drinking greek coffees in one of the cafe's off the central square, before heading off to another part of the island to explore. Below is a selection of some of the pictures I took on our trip.

We stayed in Moraitika, which is halfway down the east coast between Corfu town and the tip of the island. It's a nice small place with friendly bars and restaurants situated along the main street, and a quiet shingle beach with views across to the mountains on the mainland. Quite often we could stand on the beach looking at a thunderstorm raging on the other side of the channel! I would also recommend the trip up to the top of the mountain (Pantokrator) - there is a lovely monastry there (albeit straddled by a large radio antenna!) but the views are stunning. Also, make sure you take the boat trip to Paxos and Antipaxos. This pair of small islands south of Corfu are well worth a visit if you fancy a peaceful day out, and the boat trip (refreshing in the heat!) lets you get close up to some caves in the cliffs on the approach to the islands.
