One of my other hobbies is creating images in Autodesk 3D Studio Max. 3D Image programs such as Max aren't like the traditional "painting" style thing you might be thinking of; instead you actually construct the items that make up the picture as if you were making it, then you tell the computer what sort of material each item has (for instance what colour or texture, how it reflects light and so on), you add one or more lights into the scene, then the computer draws the image for you (that's the simple explanation...!)

The advantage of this method of art is that once you have set up your scene, you can get the computer to draw it from any viewpoint you want, and of course, animate it. This type of thing is used a lot for architectural visualisations, so that people can see what the inside of a new building might look like before it's even built. 3D Studio Max, is a very well known package in this field, and has also been used for special effects work in movies. Below are some of the images i've created over the past few years; enjoy! After the images are some books on the 3D Imaging in general (and some Max specific ones I have found useful) you might want to check out.
