A few years ago, a friend and I decided to try making our own sports car, following the book "How to build your own sports car for £250" by Ron Champion. The type of car is generally called a Locost (low-cost, geddit?) and we christened ours "T7". Needless to say, it cost a bit more than £250, however it was great fun to make and drive! During the time it's been on the road, I've taken a fair few photos of the car, that you can see below...

In its first incarnation, the car was powered by a Ford 1.6 engine that came out of our donor car, a Mk2 Escort. This served well, including a trip to watch a couple of WRC stages in Germany, and to perform a few laps of the Nurburgring, however on the way home it started to get a bit smokey, and we ended up replacing it with a Toyota 4AGE engine. This is a more modern and more powerful design, but of course, required a fair few changes. These included:

new gearbox
new propshaft
custom bellhousing
re-wiring the engine bay, including finding a home for the ECU
re-plumbing the cooling system
new 2-pump fuel system, including new high pressure hoses

You're probably asking why we didn't do that in the first place. To which I'd reply "yes, quite"...

More recently, Steve replaced the rusty steel floor with a nice lightweight and corrosion free aluminium one. Pictures below...
