Oundle is a small market town in
Northamptonshire, partway between Peterborough and Kettering. It
also happens to be where I live. The town is small, yet bustling,
and is an attractive place thanks to the many old buildings in and
around the centre. In addition, the town is home to the private
Oundle
School, which is one of the reasons there always seems to be
something going on. The Talbot Inn in the town is worthy of a visit,
as the old staircase is said to have come from nearby Fotheringhay
Castle, and Mary, Queen of Scots was led down them to her execution.
Marks indented in the wood are supposedly from her rings, and her
ghost is now rumoured to haunt the place! If you are after something
more up to date and you are on the wealthier side, then Fairline
will manufacture you a nice cruising boat - something you wouldn't
be ashamed to park at Monaco (no, Oundle isn't anywhere near the
sea!).
Easter 2008 saw some snowfall in Oundle, so I went for an early
morning walk to take the first few images below. |
