Saas Fee is a village located in the Swiss Alps, close to the Italian border. It is in the next vally east from Zermatt.

Saas Fee is referred to as the "Pearl of the Alps", and is a beautiful, peaceful place to visit in either summer or winter. The village nestles at the base of Switzerland's highest mountains in a natural bowl, leading to dramatic views wherever you look.

In the winter, it's a bustling place as it's high altitude means it nearly always has good snow for winter sports when other resorts may be lacking. Even then, lift queues are virtually non-existent even at busy times.

In the summer, it is much quieter with most residents there just to relax, walk, and enjoy the scenery. Cowbells clang in the meadows, streams run down the mountain from melted glacier ice, and you're in a picture perfect Swiss setting! Visit the official Saas Fee website to find out what's on and how to get there. When you land in Switzerland you might want to hire a car - we flew to Geneva, and the road around the lake then down the long valley towards Saas Fee is beautiful. THe train actually takes the same route, however you will need to use the Swiss "Postbus" to make the last part of the journey up to Saas Fee.

Some of the photos below were taken with my film camera on previous visits. Because of this, one of the films had an error in processing, so there is a horizontal line across some of the pictures. I'll be adding some more recent pictures taken with my DSLR later. There is a mixture of pictures taken in both summer and winter for you to enjoy.
