Believe it or not, the UK does,
on the odd occasion, get some weather other than dreary grey drizzling
cloudy chod.
On this page are a few photos I've taken of slightly more interesting-than-normal
weather! I've reecently moved to a more rural location too, so hopefully
this will make it easier to cath any good storms or sunsets as there
will be less travelling involved to get away from built up areas!

Sunsets

Lightning
Lightning is
one of those things that is easy in theory, harder in practice! To do the
below images, I waited for a suitable storm (i.e. off in the distance a
bit!) and set my camera on its tripod and opened the shutter. Once a bolt
had flashed in the cameras field of view I could advance to the next field.
The storms weren't very active, with gaps of minutes between strikes often,
so not many to see. On the first attempt I closed the shutter right down
thinking it would be too bright, but I was wrong, and the pictures are grainy
and dark. The second two pictures are much better, and this was with the
lens at f/4.

Frost
Today was
the first frost of the winter. Not too heavy, but I did take the image
below with my mobile on the way into work. I'm hoping for some more days
like today to get more pictures soon!
Other
Clouds
Sometimes
there is an interesting cloud formation without all the nice oranges and
reds of a sunset. I'll put these here!

The next
picture below was taken from my cellphone on the way home - the sun dropped
behind this large cloud making for a nice dramatic effect.
The cloud below is a very odd formation I spotted out of my window, and
snapped with my phone. Can you explain how it formed?
Autumn
Actually,
I suppose Autumn ("fall" for our cousins 'stateside'!) isn't
really weather, but hey-ho. The trees changed quite late here and for
various reasons I never got out for a good photo session, but here is
a lovely autumn scene from Rutland Water.
Rainbow
This rainbow
showed the effect of the sky "outside" the rainbow being much
darker than "inside" remarkably well!
Winter
sunset in the fog...
On the evening of the 18th Feb 2008, the sunset combined with
the fog led to a very striking display of natural light in many areas.
The image below is captured pretty much as-is, with no enhancements. Shortly
afterwards, the horizon went a very dark red shade, but no pictures, sorry!
